- Plant based vs animal based diets
As almost all of the potential readers of the blog are aware of two different types of diet that is plant based and animal based diet. So this blog is going to highlight the plant based diet journey. A plant based diet mainly consists of foods originated from plants such as vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds. A plant based diet majorly highlights a change from eating animal based food towards plant based food. There are numerous benefits of following a plant based diet few of them are: Prevention of diabetes: plant based diet helps to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce insulin resistance therefore reducing the risk of diabetes. Prevention of heart diseases: a diet rich in fruits and vegetables would decrease the blood pressure level therefore reducing the risk of heart diseases. Obesity: plant based diets generally contain less calories and fats due to which it prevents obesity and helps people to maintain a healthy weight. Apart from the health benefits offered there are environmental benefits from following a plant based diets such as: Preserves environment: plant based food require less water and land resources and less greenhouse gases to be produced. Water saving: plants based foods require less water compared to animal based food products for example meat based products such as beef would require a lot of water compared to plant based foods items such as potato, corn and other veggies. As a report from Stockholm International Water Institute states that "It’s said that not eating 1 pound of meat saves more water than not taking a shower for 6 months!" Cheaper and healthier choice: plant based products are way more cheap and affordable for people compared to animal based products and due to this reason people prefer plant based food items. There are many more benefits associated with ethics, sustainability, water etc. Inspired from the various benefits offered from the plant based diet I have started incorporating plant based food items in my diet and incorporating such items in my diet has helped change my lifestyle in terms of healthy weight management and maintaining a good health away from risk of many diseases. I would like to share a glimpse of my vegetarian diet that I would follow on a typical day. To start my day I would have a mixed fruit smoothie, which provides energy to the body, followed by a mid morning snack consisting of seeds or almond milk. For lunch I would go for a vibrant colored salad and for my favorite meal of the day that is dinner I have brown rice and curry loaded with veggies. Food blogs really helped me to incorporate such healthy recipes in my diet. Most of my recipes are derived from the food blogs encouraging more healthy and plant based diets. However, inventing and discovering new and personalized recipes is an essential part of my dietary experience as I constantly research and try to invent recipes that would give nutritional value and a great flavor at the same time. This reason for my research for healthier plant based food preparation is the urge to keep following this diet in the long run as it has proven to be really helpful for my health in general and just following this diet for a day would make me feel so light and energetic. And hence I encourage the readers of my blog to incorporate plant based food items in your diet as it has immense benefits to your health and would change your lifestyle for good. - Nutrition and credible websites vs non credible websites
Hi everyone, Welcome to my blog. My name is Sania, hailing from a small town in India, I have never restricted myself in the boundaries of my house and have always been very curious and excited to explore the world and endless opportunities. Since my childhood I have dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur and my dream brought me to Canada in search of great opportunities and that is how I started studying the course of business at George brown college. I enjoy studying all my courses however in my last semester, I was fascinated by the choices of different courses I had to choose from apart from my major courses. Nutrition was one such course that really fascinated me because I have always wanted to have a very healthy lifestyle and have been keen to learn about the nutrition value of the food that I eat, Following which I chose the course. So far in the course I have learnt a lot about nutrients, different foods that offer high or low nutrients and much more. The one particular topic that I studied and was really happy to learn about was the credibility of different websites that share information on nutrition. We tend to believe everything we read online but often ignore the fact that not everything we read online can be true, there are fake things as well. Specifically for websites that provide information on nutrition, it is very important to ensure that the information is not misleading and is coming along with proper references and from credible sources. I know this raises a question in your mind that how to identify which website is credible and which one is not credible? Well this is what my blog is going to be about. I will share some examples to show how to identify the credibility of nutrition websites. Based on what I learnt from the course there are few primary keys to identify the credibility of a website: Is the website associated with some health association or a government institution. Is the information posted from any research organization or hospital or is it influenced by personal experiences of the person. Are there any references available for the information provided. Based on this I identified a credible website: Unlockfood.ca It is a credible website because: The articles posted on the website are from dietitians. The dietitians use practice based evidence in Nutrition to write the articles which make it credible. The meal plans provided on the website are also provided by the dietitians and according to Canada's food guide. The website also provides detailed knowledge on how to become a dietitian and claims that all the information provided on website is shared by dietitians and is researched from credible sources. The website that I came across that was not credible is: Globalresearch.ca This website does not provide any evidence or explanation for their claims in their articles. It is an independent research organization and is not associated with any government or national health organization. According to a survey on Statista, it is considered a website that misleads people by providing misinformation on health or nutrition. This is how we can identify credible and non credible websites. So, next time you believe in anything you read online make sure to dive into website to identify whether it's credible or not. References Unlock food. About foodlock.ca.
